I’m Tess. I’m a born and raised New Yorker but after a year of hardship, I left behind everything I knew to start a new life in Switzerland.

I read The Sun Also Rises when I was 15 years old and immediately fell in love with the idea of writing in cafes, drinking too much, eating too much, and making my way through the world.

During my sophomore year in college, I was drinking $5 margaritas in a small Mexican restaurant when my friend pointed out my love for drinking whiskey and talking about Hemingway. He pointed his margarita at me, spilling a bit on my leg, and said, “You know, you’re like– you’re like…the Female Hemingway!” And thus the nickname was born.

Though I do not believe I am the Hemingway reincarnate, his lifelong passion for words and struggle to create the perfect sentence is something I find awe-inspiring. Hemingway created raw, powerful truths in his writing and that’s something I stand by in my own life. I want to tell my truth and I want to tell it well.

I believe in the power of storytelling and I hope that the stories of my life can inspire you to pack your bags and go after your dreams.

These are my adventures as an expat in a new country.
